Shiraz is a name well known to wine lovers, as the grape is believed to have originated here, even though modern Shiraz wines are now mainly produced elsewhere. While the vineyards have long disappeared, the city remains rich in cultural and historical attractions. Today’s city tour begins at the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque, also known as the Pink Mosque, completed in 1888. You will then visit the Vakil Complex, including its mosque, historic bathhouse, and lively bazaar. This morning you depart for the historic city of Isfahan, with several outstanding stops along the way. Your first visit is to Persepolis, founded in 518 BC as the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built on a vast stone terrace, its impressive ruins still reflect the former splendour of ancient Persian civilisation. You then continue to Naqsh-e Rostam, an ancient necropolis renowned for its rock-carved royal tombs and reliefs. Often referred to as the “red village” due to its distinctive red earth and buildings, Abyaneh’s winding lanes climb the foothills of the Karkas Mountains. Picturesque from afar, a closer look reveals its unique clay architecture and well-preserved local traditions. In Kashan, you will visit the Boroujerdi House, a beautifully preserved 19th-century residence that now functions as a museum.
